Standard deposit insurance stops at $250,000 per bank. Here is how Larch spreads deposits across 20 partner banks, and what that coverage does and does not mean.
FDIC insurance covers up to $250,000 per depositor, per bank, for each ownership category. For a startup that has just raised $3M, that leaves most of the round uninsured at any single bank.
Larch partners with Fennimore Trust to run a sweep network of 20 FDIC-member banks. Each night, deposits above $250,000 at your program bank are placed at other banks in the network, no more than $250,000 at each, so each portion stays within that bank's coverage.
Deposit insurance protects you if an insured bank fails. It does not cover losses from fraud on your account, and it does not cover investments. Money in Larch Treasury is invested in money market funds; it is not a deposit and is not FDIC-insured.
“Insurance is a promise about bank failure, not about everything that can go wrong. We think founders deserve to know the difference.”
Coverage is per depositor, per bank. If you also hold deposits directly at a bank in our network, the two together count against the same $250,000. Exclude that bank in Settings, and your deposits are placed elsewhere.
