Customer story · Ostra Labs
Ostra opened on a Tuesday, paid its first contractor that afternoon, and has kept a one-person finance team through a Series A.
Ostra Labs makes a debugger for distributed systems. Ada Okafor and two co-founders opened their Larch account the day their seed round from Halftone Ventures closed, and paid their first contractor that afternoon.
Every vendor at Ostra gets its own virtual card with its own limit. When a trial ends, the card is frozen. Mira Castell joined as the first finance hire after the Series A and kept the system as it was.
“We opened Larch on a Tuesday and paid our first contractor that afternoon. Two years and a Series A later, our finance team is still one person and a laptop.”
Invoices go to a Larch address and are read and matched to purchase orders automatically. Anything over $10,000 needs two approvals, and Ada approves from her phone. Closing the month went from three days of spreadsheets to an afternoon.
After the Series A, Ostra moved the eighteen months of runway it would not touch this quarter into Larch Treasury. It sells what it needs each month for payroll, and the rest keeps earning.
